Gender Identity Issues
Gender Identity Issues
Gender Identity Disorder is defined by a persistent feeling of identification with the opposite gender and significant discomfort with one’s own assigned sex. Individuals with Gender Identity Disorder often wish to live their lives as members of the opposite sex and often dress and use mannerisms associated with the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity disorder choose to undergo sex reassignment surgery.
Identity issues can be very difficult to deal with, not only for the individual but for their families and friends. In addition, the social implications tend to contribute to additional difficulty coping and adjusting, especially in adolescence. Our goal at Equilibria Kids is to help individuals with Gender Identity Disorder explore their feelings in a healthy, safe and comfortable environment, while working to explore their options.
