Trauma in Children and Teens
Trauma in Children and Teens
Trauma, experienced as an adult, adolescent or child, can feel overwhelming and have a significant impact on the quality of one’s life. Common traumatic events include physical, emotional or sexual abuse, neglect, assault, accidents, or natural disasters. It is often helpful to work through traumatic events, especially if the symptoms persist and seem to have an impact on daily functioning.
Based on one’s developmental stage, trauma is experienced in different ways. It is imperative to understand how a child or adolescent understands their experience of trauma in order to tailor the help that is given. Our clinicians are highly trained in the area of trauma in both children and adolescents and offer a safe and comfortable environment to help our clients work through and integrate the traumatic experience, helping our clients regain a healthy sense of safety and peace in their lives.
