Family Accommodation of Child and Adolescent Anxiety: Advanced Topics
Family Accommodation of Child and Adolescent Anxiety: Advanced Topics
1.5 CEs
Accommodation is common among families of kids and teens with anxiety, and can limit the benefit of exposure therapy if left untreated. Luckily, there are ways therapists can work with families to help them address accommodation directly.
This presentation is geared towards therapists who attended Dr. Haimm’s talk last year on parent coaching and want to learn more, as well as those who are newer to the topic but wish to build additional skills to work with these families (no requirement of having attended previous training – anyone is welcome to join us!)
Dr. Kagan will present on ways to help families identify different common forms of accommodation, language and tools clinicians can use when talking about accommodation with families, how to integrate accommodation reduction into exposure work with the child, and how to work with schools to address accommodations there.
It will be useful for clinicians working with anxious children and families, particularly those who wish to expand their practice to address accommodation with a wide range of families.
