I provide a safe, gentle space for children, adolescents, and adults who are overwhelmed with any combination of trauma, anxiety, chronic illness, or substance abuse issues, either within themselves or someone they care about. I offer supportive therapy with a strong focus on helping you build a powerful sense of emotional regulation and coping skills. I offer a flexible approach that meets you where you are. Depending on what feels helpful and right for you, that might include EMDR, Art Therapy, addiction counseling, and relaxation and mindful grounding techniques.
I am often asked to describe EMDR and Art Therapy. In short, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a type of therapy often used for working through traumatic or difficult and distressing experiences. It often involves left to right eye movement or some other type of bilateral stimulation, which has been found to reduce the degree of emotional distress connected to past events. This back and forth movement sets the stage for reducing the power of any negative beliefs that might be associated with a distressing experience.
Art Therapy is a type of counseling for people of all ages that usually includes art making but does not require the person in the session to have any kind of art background. Art Therapy is used for creating healing imagery, expressing distressing imagery, and has been found to improve emotional regulation. Art making might include collage, drawing, painting, or sculpting. At the end of the day, it is my job to make sure you feel at ease when you come in for therapy. In order for you to get the best help you can, I provide a warm, human, space where my aim is for you to feel supported and grounded so you can understand what you have been carrying and consider what it might mean to let it go.
