Kristen Ullrich
I believe in a collaborative approach to treatment, to provide for the education, care, and empowerment of those who suffer from emotional and behavioral difficulties, including severe mental illness and complex trauma. I employ a developmental approach when treating trauma and mental illness, and integrate a number of adjunct therapies beyond my general Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Theoretical leanings, which include Narrative approaches, Play Therapy and EMDR. I am a seasoned mental health professional who practices, teaches, and supervises in the field of Clinical Psychology and is proud to have joined the Equilibria team in September of 2024.
As both a university professor and a Clinical Psychologist, my professional focus is to continually grow my skills and understanding of how I can most effectively help my clients. I am so honored to have this life-work and be witness to my clients’ experiences, in which ever way they are expressed through words, play or other movement. I am trained in multiple orientations and hold a trans-theoretical worldview, but typically practice Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Play Therapy and Narrative therapies.
I began my training at Rutgers University, going on for a master’s degree from University of Colorado at Denver. After working as a licensed professional counselor for many years in Denver, I returned to earn a doctoral degree from Long Island University- Post in Clinical Psychology. More recently, I have trained and worked in two major Philadelphia psychiatric hospitals / clinics, working with children, adolescents, and adults in the throes of severe mental illness and traumatic stress. I am pleased to bring these experiences and my knowledge to my sessions and look forward to learning from each individual whom I meet.
My areas of specialization include:
- Treatment of trauma
- Mood disorders
- Anxiety disorders
- Attentional disorders
- Psychotic disorder
- Eating disorders
- Borderline personality disorder
- Identity stress issues (identity affirming)
- Play therapy with children
