Jennifer Chiaramonti

Welcome! I’m glad you’re here. You may have been hurting for a long time before you felt ready to reach out for support – especially if the problem has made you feel afraid, confused, ashamed, or simply stuck in defeated exhaustion. On the other hand, you may be reading this page because a brand-new problem has just emerged in your life, leaving you reeling and disoriented from life as you knew it. You may have felt ready to book an appointment and engage with therapy, but then changed your mind and postponed. Or, perhaps you became overwhelmed while reading and narrowing down therapist biographies, and gave up on choosing someone to work with because of decision fatigue. Maybe you’ve been in therapy before and you have a sense of what to expect, or maybe you are new to therapy and feeling scared and unsure of what to expect. Maybe you’ve been meaning to start counseling for a while, but life has been busy and hectic, and the timing hasn’t worked out until now. I assure you that all of this is normal and experienced by many people when contemplating therapy. The bottom line is you are here right now reading this page, and that makes you persistent, open-minded, and courageous. You desire to feel and function better. You are on your own side. That’s a great starting point for therapy.

Whether this is your first time considering therapy, or whether you have tried therapy before, whether you are dealing with a new problem in your life, or want to address a long-term concern, I look forward to working with you. With one of my favorite quotes being, “grow through what you go through,” I consider myself to be a great match for clients who want to learn, gain insight, heal, cope, and find meaning in the midst of pain, worry, confusion, or challenges. I am a clinical therapist, career coach, and faculty member. I assist adolescent, adult, and senior clients with a wide range of concerns including, but not limited to depression and anxiety, relationship challenges, trauma, life transitions and adjustments, stress, low self-esteem, attachment issues, seasonal affective disorder, social anxiety, imposter syndrome; LBGTQIA+ issues, occupational and workplace concerns, high school to college transitions, college student concerns, stressors associated with immigration and acculturation, and grief and loss, including pet loss. I practice from a trauma-informed, multicultural orientation, considering systemic and societal issues that contribute to human suffering. As such, I am a BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ ally, as well as neurodivergent affirming.

Because I believe that we cannot separate our mental health from our physical health, relational health, or spiritual health, I will help you to integrate the past and present, as well as address your behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. I will also bring your strengths into the therapeutic work and leverage them to help you address challenges in your life. You can expect me to conduct myself in a professional, compassionate, honest, confidential, and nonjudgmental way. I will listen carefully to the concerns that brought you in and develop a custom treatment plan, which may integrate multiple therapeutic modalities to best meet your needs. Since I have an educational style, I will explain to you why I am using these specific approaches to assist you, and what benefits or risks you can expect. We will be a team, and you should feel well-informed and have a voice at every step in your care. My previous clients described working with me as warm, kind, safe, challenging, funny, validating, educational, empowering, and professional.

Outside of therapy, I enjoy teaching graduate-level clinical counseling courses as an adjunct instructor. I find meaning in being able to mentor, train, and supervise the students who will become the future of the counseling profession. My personal time is characterized by variety, and I enjoy a blend of social and introverted pursuits including: traveling, participating in the arts and culture scene, practicing photography, spending time with my cats, reading, home improvement, exercise, meditation and contemplative practices, ancestry research, and time with loved ones. I am also a lifelong learner who frequently engages in classes and training for professional development and personal enrichment. I am a terrible dancer, mediocre cook, nerdy cat enthusiast, aspiring Golden Girl, and unapologetic quoter of Seinfeld.
