The program centers the counselor’s cultural identity and the lived experiences of caregivers from diverse racial, ethnic, and national backgrounds. Through experiential activities, attendees will explore the relational dynamics of consultation and gain practical strategies to address resistance, rupture, and repair in caregiver relationships. Designed for clinicians working with children and adolescents, this session empowers providers to engage caregivers with cultural
humility, identity awareness, and healing-centered consultation practices.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify core components of a culturally responsive caregiver consultation framework.
2. Reflect on the influence of race, ethnicity, and identity on caregiver engagement.
3. Apply relational-cultural strategies to build trust and reduce rupture in consultation.
4. Describe at least three ways to navigate caregiver resistance through a multicultural lens.
