Overview:
This 3-hour presentation on Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) provides a comprehensive introduction to the therapy principles, techniques, and applications. Participants will gain insights into how CPRT can foster positive parent-child relationships by enhancing communication, understanding, and emotional connection. The program covers the fundamental components of CPRT, addresses the influence of age, gender, race, and ethnicity on therapy effectiveness, and includes practical case studies and role-playing exercises. The goal is to equip attendees with the knowledge and skills to effectively implement CPRT while being culturally sensitive and responsive to diverse family dynamics.
Objectives:
- Describe the core principles, history, and goals of Child Parent Relationship Therapy
(CPRT). - Analyze how age, gender, and developmental stages impact the therapy process and
tailor approaches accordingly. - Apply CPRT concepts through case studies and role-playing exercises to practice and
refine therapeutic skills.
Presenter:
Dr. Kristy A. Brumfield is a licensed professional counselor, registered play therapist, clinical
supervisor, and a nationally certified counselor. She joined the team at Equilibria in July 2015.
Dr. Brumfield earned a Master of Health Sciences degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from
Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in 2002 and also earned a PhD in
Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans in 2006. She has spent more than
twenty years working with children, adolescents, and families in New Orleans and
Philadelphia providing counseling from a client-centered, strength-based perspective. She is
currently a Professor at Xavier University of Louisiana where she teaches counseling and play
therapy to Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Professional School Counseling students.
She also serves the Equilibria Child Therapy Center for Excellence as a supervisor and
trainer.
