Karen Gould, Psy.D

I consider psychotherapy to be among the most powerful tools available to us to instill hope, promote emotional healing, and improve the quality of our inner lives and our relationships. As a treating psychologist, it is my honor and privilege when others allow me into what I consider a sacred space to help them navigate along their healing path. Whether you are considering therapy for the first time or are looking to continue your journey, I commend your strength in making your emotional wellness a top priority.

I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania and have been a practicing psychotherapist for the past twenty years. I provide individual and family therapy for adolescents and adults and my theoretical areas of expertise are psychodynamic and family systems. The psychodynamic therapy relationship provides a safe, collaborative, and explorative space to
gain in depth self-awareness and interpersonal awareness, and to understand the influence of one’s past on the present. This analytic therapy approach is designed to create lasting change in all areas of one’s life. As a family therapist, my style may include meeting with the entire family, parts of the family, and individual family members to help them make lasting changes in their relationships.

I have expertise in helping adult clients to navigate and heal from the impact of childhood trauma on their lives as well as expertise working with adolescents who are struggling with behavioral issues. My other clinical areas of expertise and research interests include childhood abuse and attachment trauma, serious and persistent mental illness, personality disorders and identity development, suicide prevention, depression, anxiety, psychopharmacology, multicultural psychology, racial trauma, and social justice. I have experience working in forensic settings such as juvenile detention, as well as inpatient, higher education, family-based
services, and group private practice.
