Kellie Medendorp, LCSW

Kellie Medendorp (She/Her)

When you are ready, I am here to support you. As your therapist, I strive to build a working, collaborative relationship where we can discuss your goals and various ways to achieve them. I firmly believe in the strength-based perspective where we will discuss the skills you already have and build on them to reach your goals.

Cultivating your motivation for change is another emphasis in our working relationship. I will assist you in finding a realistic place where we can begin to make some changes, no matter how small they may be. You will choose your starting point and we will come up with your next step together.

Addiction is one of the areas I am most passionate about, and I have worked with adolescents and adults in active addiction, early recovery, and long term recovery. I believe addiction is the inability to disengage from an inefficient pattern of coping that can start with a substance (caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, drugs, etc.) or behavior (working out, eating, shopping, gambling, sex, relationships, etc.). I can help you identify those patterns, build your level of self-awareness, and make meaningful lifestyle changes that provide you with a better quality of life.

I am also passionate about working with children and adolescents as they navigate school, peer, and family relationships. School-aged youth face unique distractions and challenges that can be overwhelming at times and lead to anger, withdrawn behaviors, and acting out behaviors as a way to cope.

I draw upon interventions including Motivational Interviewing, Art Therapy, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – and adapt them to fit your needs. My professional background consists of working with people managing mental and behavioral health issues including:
